How to look after a ceramic coated car, and what professional maintenance actually involves.
Wash regularly using the two-bucket method with a pH-neutral shampoo, avoid brush-style automatic car washes, and dry with a clean plush towel. Most coating problems we see come from harsh chemicals or poor washing technique rather than the coating itself failing.
Typically every six to twelve months depending on mileage, storage and how the car is used. Daily drivers parked outside need attention sooner than garaged weekend cars.
Most coatings benefit from a booster layer between full services. It restores hydrophobics and gloss without stripping or reapplying the base coating, which keeps performance closer to day one for longer.
Watch the water behaviour. Strong beading and water sheeting off cleanly means the coating is performing; water lying flat on the paint or dirt clinging after rain suggests it needs decontamination and a top-up.
Avoid automatic brush washes — the brushes inflict swirl marks regardless of coating. Touchless washes are acceptable occasionally, but a proper hand wash with the right products is far kinder to the finish.
Bonded contamination and iron fallout build up gradually and quietly reduce coating performance. A professional check catches that early, along with any developing paint issues, and includes an honest condition report on what to watch for next.
